Turn Your Zoom or Google Meet Recording into ESL Homework

If you teach online, you almost certainly already record your lessons - Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams all make this straightforward. Most teachers let those recordings accumulate in a folder, occasionally going back to check something, but never fully using what's in them.

SpeakRecap is the missing step between the recording and the student's homework portal. No new software to install during the lesson, no changes to how you teach - just an upload after the session ends.

How it works with Zoom

Step 1: Enable recording in Zoom

In your Zoom settings, enable local recording under Settings → Recording. During the lesson, click Record in the toolbar (or use Alt+R on Windows, ⌘+Shift+R on Mac). When you end the meeting, Zoom will process and save the files to your computer.

Step 2: Find the audio file

Zoom saves two files by default: an MP4 video and an M4A audio file. The M4A is smaller and processes faster in SpeakRecap. It will be in your Zoom folder (usually Documents/Zoom/[meeting-date]/).

Step 3: Upload to SpeakRecap

Log in to SpeakRecap, select the student, and click Upload Recording. Drag the M4A file or browse to it. The analysis usually completes within 3–5 minutes for a 60-minute lesson.

How it works with Google Meet

Step 1: Record the meeting

In Google Meet, click the three-dot menu and select Record meeting. You need a Google Workspace account with recording enabled. The recording is saved automatically to the meeting organiser's Google Drive under Meet Recordings.

Step 2: Download the MP4

Open Google Drive, find the recording in the Meet Recordings folder, right-click, and select Download. This gives you an MP4 file.

Step 3: Upload to SpeakRecap

Upload the MP4 directly - SpeakRecap extracts the audio automatically. Processing time is the same as any other upload.

Microsoft Teams, Skype, and other platforms

The same workflow applies to any platform that can export an audio or video file:

• Teams - recordings save to OneDrive or SharePoint as MP4 files.
• Skype - recordings save as MP4 to your Skype media folder or Microsoft cloud storage.
• Any other platform - if you can export an MP3, M4A, MP4, WAV, or WebM file, SpeakRecap can process it.

There is no plugin, no API integration, and no special setup required on the video conferencing side. SpeakRecap works with what you already have.

What you get after uploading

Within a few minutes of uploading, SpeakRecap generates:

• A lesson summary - what was covered, where the student struggled, what to focus on next.
• A vocabulary list with level-appropriate definitions, automatically added to the student's flashcard deck.
• 5–8 homework exercises across multiple types (multiple choice, fill-in-blank / cloze, speaking, writing, sentence ordering, and more), ready for you to review and publish.
• Pronunciation notes - specific sounds or words flagged for follow-up.

Your student receives a notification and logs in to their portal to complete the homework at their own pace.

Does Zoom's own AI do this?

Zoom AI Companion generates a generic meeting summary - useful for business meetings, but not designed for language education. It does not extract vocabulary, does not generate homework exercises, does not score pronunciation, and does not create a student practice portal. SpeakRecap is the pedagogical layer that sits on top of your existing recording infrastructure and turns it into teaching material.
